September 23 -- General meeting. Social hour at 5:30; business meeting at 6:30pm; Program at 7pm ~ PAL member Kathy Thurston will demonstrate a contemporary, westernized interpretation of Chinese Gongbi-style (meticulous detail) painting. She'll use the heron as her subject, showing the progressive stages of painting with Chinese ink and color on rice paper. Her demo will cover a range of topics including using photos for wildlife sketches, inking rice paper to create values, depth, dimensionality and texture and finally glazing and negative painting. She'll also discuss options for mounting rice paper.
(This is also a screening month. Download a screening form with complete icreening instructions from the Miscellaneous Forms page.)

Art Displays -- At every general meeting, we have a display of work by three of our members. Each Featured Artist brings a few pieces of their work and is available to chat during the social hour. This gives us a chance to get to know one another better as artists and to show off our latest creations. Contact Roberta Rogers at if you'd like to display your work at a meeting.
