Art Displays -- At every general meeting, we have a display of work by three of our members. Each Featured Artist brings a few pieces of their work and is available to chat during the social hour. Other PAL-sponsored shows & exhibitions -- These shows are open to current screened members:
Netshed Challenge -- May 1-June 16 at the Civic Center. This exhibition will feature paintings, drawings and photographs of Gig Harbor's historic netsheds done by PAL artists.
Since the late 1800s, the netsheds have been an important part of Gig Harbor's commercial fishing industry, used by the fishermen to store and repair their nets and gear. Seventeen of the netsheds are still standing and approximately eight are still used by fishing families. PAL is partnering with the Gig Harbor Arts Commission to bring together artists to draw, paint or photograph the netsheds.
For a list of the netsheds and information about their history and current use, visit the City's website at www.cityofgigharbor.net/page.php?id=1761. For an on-going discussion by participating artists, visit PAL's blogspot at PAL Blogspot. Contact Anne Knapp or Feather Hilger for information.
Uptown 'Art Walk' -- June 6-July 2. Artwork by PAL members will be on display in shops throughout Uptown. No entry fees or awards but possible sales of artwork. Contact Anne Knapp for information.
Plein Air Show ~ Oct. 1-Nov. 3 -- The Lodge at Mallard's Landing will again host our annual plein air show featuring work done by our Plein Air and 'Drawing You In' groups during this summer's painting season. Contact Anne Knapp for information.
Garden Tour Art Show ~ June 2-30 at Kimball Gallery. (This show is open to all artists.) This show will feature artwork done at participating gardens during the 2013 Garden Tour. The show will be an official 'stop' on the 2014 Tour. No awards or fees. 10 percent commission taken on sales. Contact Anne Knapp for information.
Screening for PAL Shows -- All new members, and members who want to exhibit in a new medium, must be screened. Screening takes place three times a year - in February, May and September, immediately prior to the general meeting.
The next screening will be right before the February meeting --just in time for new members to take part in the March Members' show, the Netshed Show, and Uptown Art Walk. For complete screening details, download the "Members' Show Screening Form" from the Miscellaneous Forms page.
